Denomination : Silver tetradrachm.  Mint : Odessa.

Date : This type was struck by Mithradates VI of Pontus ca. 83 to 82 BC, and is one of the last types in the Alexander the Great style tetradrchm series.

Reference : Price-1191.

Size : 29.3 x 30.5 mm.  Weight : 15.92 grams grams (struck to the old Macedonian standard, rather than the Attic standard of most Alexander type tetradrachms.

Grade : VF, but with the mint mark at the bottom of the reverse only visible by the very tops of the letters.

Obverse : Head of Herakles right, wearing the lion's skin.  What makes this particular issue different is the facial features are clearly those of Mithradates VI of Pontus.

Reverse : Zeus seated left, holding a sceptre and eagle, with ΒΑΣΙΛΙΩΣ to the right, and ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ to the left, with ΑΛ below the arm, and below the mint mark ΟΔH for Odessa (but the mint mark is mostly off the flan).
