Philip II was the son of Philip I.

Denomination : Silver antoninianus.  Mint : Rome.

Date : AD 248

Size : 21.7 x 24.4 mm.  Weight : 3.99 grams.

Reference : Sear-9275.  RIC-72

Grade : gXF/XF

Obverse : Radiate head of Philip II right, with IMP PHILIPPVS AVG around.

Reverse: European Elk (?) standing left, with SAECVLARES AVGG around with III below.

This coin was struck as part of a series commemorating Rome's 1000th anniversary.  The type of animal shown on this coin is not certain, but an Euopean Elk is the most likely suggestion so far (although I am certainly  not convinced that is what it is).
