Philip II was Alexander the Great's father, but this example was stuck by Alexander's half brother.

Denomination : Gold stater.  Mint : Amphipolis

Date : Struck posthumously ca. 323 to 315 BC, most likely by Philip III (Alexanders' half brother).

Reference : Le Rider 225, 238.

Size : 16.5 X 17.0 mm.  Weight : 8.52 grams.

Grade : gVF and well centred.  Some lustre remains.

Obverse : Head of Apollo right.

Reverse : Charioteer driving a bigga right, holding a goad over the horses heads, with FILIPPOU in the exergue, with a tripod below the horses fore-legs, and a K to the lower right.
