Denomination : Silver double Gros (or Plak or Botdrager).

Date : This type was struck ca. AD 1377 to 1380.

Size : 29.1 x 30.0 mm. Weight : 3.82 grams.

Reference : G-224. Thompson 3797.

Grade : gVF. A nice example of a larger medieval coin.

Obverse : Seated lion wearing an elaborate helmet, with LVDOVICVS DEI GRA COMES S DNS FLANDREI. Some letters are weak, but nearly the entire inscription can be read.

Reverse : Cross Fleuronne, with two rings of inscription around. The inner ring reads MONETA DE FLANDRIA. On the outer ring the tops of some letters are off the flan, but enough over every letter shows to read the entire inscriptions.
