Denomination : AE Prutah (or AE 15).

Reference : Sear - Greek Imperial Coinage #5534 variety.

Size : 13.5 x 16.4 mm.  Weight : 1.14 grams.

Grade : VF on a slightly irregular flan.

Obverse : Anchor with a double cross bar and ring at the top.  The inscription on these should read BACL HRWD, Greek for KING HEROD .  On this example the BACL is off the flan to the right, but what should read HRWD is present to the left, but only the H can be read with the balance of the name in nonesensical letter forms of a generally Aramaic appearance but which are not correct letter forms.

Reverse : Crossed cornucopiae with a small caduceus between them.

I believe this to be an ancient counterfeit by an illiterate counterfeiter more familiar with the general appearnace of Aramaic than Greek letters. This is of course conjecture, but I think reasonable conjecture, and it makes for a very interesting example
