Hafsids of Tunis. Abu Zakariy'a Yahya I, AH 627 to 647 (AD 1230 to 1249)
Denomination : I bought this coin from Steve Albumn, who designated it as a gold 1/4 dinar. However Mitchiner lists examples of this size and weight as 1/2 dinars.
Mint : no mint or date (the Hafsid's generally did not put dates or mints on their coins)
Reference : This denomination is not listed in Albums check list, but the 1/2 dinar of this type is listed as A-500.2. This type has been assigned the number A-500 D when I bought it from Steve.
Size : 16.0 x 16.4 mm. Weight : 1.16 grams.
Grade : XF and very well struck.
Obverse : Arabic inscriptions.
Reverse : Arabic inscriptions.
A nice example of a rare type.
