Denomination : Billon obol (maille tournois)Mint : Tournois.

Obols are a scarce denomination in this series.

Date : issued between AD 1290 to 1295.

Reference : Dup. 226. Ciani 227.

Size : 13.7 x 14.3 mm.  Weight : 0.42 grams.

Grade : good Fine for wear, very weak over much of the edges and so only appears to be VG.  Only fragments of the inscriptions are visible.  Original hoard toning.

The very low weight (these are usually well over half a gram) and very weak strike with thin lines on what does appear, suggest this may be a counterfeit made at about the same time as the originals.

Obverse : Short cross with PHILIPPVS REX around.

Reverse : Castle, with TVRONVS CIVIS around.
