Hsien-Feng ruled during the time of the Tai Ping rebellion, and the large denomination inflationary coins and paper money he issued resulted from that war.    The 500 cash is a fairly scarce denomination, and in our experience somewhat scarcer than the 1000 cash denomination.

Emperor : Wen Tsung using the title Hsien-Feng.

Date : 1851 to 1861.

Denomination : Copper 500 cash.

Mint
: I am uncertain of the exact mint of this coin.  At a glance it appears to be from the Board of Revenue mint, but on closer examination I believe it might be from the related "Prince Qing Hui Mint" (see Hartill page 339).   The casting quality is inferior to the BOR mint, and the caligraphy style is closer to that of the Pince Quing Hui Mint.  What is missing if the small crescent and dot that should be in the upper fields of the reverse, but there are traces of what might be those marks, and some scratching in those areas where it appears someone attempted to remove something in thoset areas.

Reference : I believe this coin to be Hartill 22.720 with the dot and crescent scratched out but it might also be Hartil 22.712 with a poor casting.    It is priced as per the more common of the two possiblities.

Size : 57.5 mm.  Weight : 65.96 grams.

Grade : VF with minor edge knocks and casting flaws.

Obverse : "Hsien-Feng yuan-pao".

Reverse : "t'ang wu bai boo ciowan" (value 500, Board of Revenue mint).
