Denomination : Silver denier.  Mint : Arles.

Date : Class 3, issued between AD 793 and 812.

Size : 20.3 x 21.0 mm.  Weight : 1.47 grams.

Reference : Dep-57 variety (26 specimens).  MEC - 737 to 738 variety.

Provenance : ex. Spink. 10/1995.

Grade : gVF to XF with a full strike.  Original hoard patina.  Minor encrustations but over all an attractive hoard patina.

Obverse : Short cross, with CAROLVS REX FR around.

Reverse : Karolus monogram with AR (pellet) ELATO around.

While there is sometimes confusion over if these monogram types as to if they are Charlemagne or Charles the Bald, the reverse inscription on this type is only used by Charelmagne.  This is a variety of those listed in MEC because it does not have the pellets in the obverse inscription.
