Denomination : Silver denier.  Mint : Narbonne.

Date : Class 3, issued between AD 793 and 814.

Size : 20.4 x 21.5 mm.  Weight : 1.58 grams.

Reference : M&G 185. Dep-689. MEC - not listed.

Grade : VF for wear with some weakness in the inscriptions.

Obverse : Short cross, with CAROLVS REX FR around.

Reverse : Karolus monogram with NARBONA around.

There is sometimes a debate as of to if one of these Karolus monogram coins is Charlemagne or Charles the back, as they can be very similar.  However, in this case there is no doubt this coin was issued by Charlemagne as it was issued from the mint of Narbonne, which was never used by Charles the Bald.

This is a scarce mint, with Dep. only recording 16 specimens.
