Denomination : Silver Denarius.  Mint : Lugdunum.

Date : Issued in 13 to 14 BC.

Reference : RIC I, 226.  Sear 1735.

Size : 17.5 x 18.1 mm.  Weight : 3.18 grams.

Grade : VF for detail, but rough with a minor edge chip.

Obverse : Bare head of Augustus right with CAESAR AVGVSTVS DIVI F PATER PATRIAE around (part of the inscription is off the flan).

Reverse : Bare head of Tiberius right, with TI CAESAR AVG F TR POT XV around (only a few letters are off the flan at the end of the inscription).

This coin was struck by Augustus in his final years, and acknowledges Tiberius as his heir to the throne.  These are scarce, and finding an example under $1000 is difficult now, and high grade examples have recently broken the $5000 mark (see Triton XI, lot 863 for a nice ones that sold for $6000).
