Tribal origin : Pictones, a Celtic tribe in the area of Armorica and Western Gaul.
Denomination : Silver drachm.
Date : ca. 80 to 60 B.C
Reference : DLT 4461, BN 4461 - 4470
Size : 15.7 x 18.1 mm. Weight : 3.09 grams.
Grade : gF, slightly off-centre as is normal for this type.
Obverse : Male head right, with curles of hair.
Reverse : Horseman riding right, carrying a flag.
In the literature, this type is normally described as a winged Horseman riding right, but on this specimen one can clearly see that what is normally described as wings is actually a flag flying out behind him. These coins are rare, and most specimens of this type are badly struck, which is why the flag has been previously miss-identified as wings.
This is a fairly rare coin.
