An ancient Anglo Saxon solid silver penny minted under King Cnut (also known as Canute). Struck 1016 - 1035 AD at the London mint under the moneyer Aelfric.  


The obverse with the helmeted and draped bust of the King, facing left, holding sceptre. The legend reading:


CNVT REX 


"King Cnut"


The reverse with voided short cross, arms extending from pellet within central annulet, broken annulet in each angle. The legend reading:


ELFRIC ON LVNDEN


"Aelfric of London"
