Robert Frédéric Jameson gathered a magnificent collection of Greek and Roman coins, one of the greatest ever formed by a private individual. His collection was published in 4 volumes from 1913 - 1932 and provides a superb general reference catalogue, still cited to this day.

Ex. collection of the famous Archaeologist, Sir Arthur John Evans (1851 - 1941).

Sir Evans discovery of the temple of Knossos in Crete, catapulted him to international fame. What is not so well known though is his life long love of numismatics. He started drawing coins from the age of 7, and although he inherited a fantastic collection of Roman coins from his father, Greek coins were his true passion. He bought and sold coins all his life, selling off duplicates and upgrading and using them to finance digs. He exhibited a select group of 211 coins at Burlington House exhibition of 1904, this coin is possibly No. 68.
