Islamic, Arab Sasanian Tegin, ca. 700-720, AE fals. 16.28mm, 0.97gm. Zabulistan, year 2=13-14AH. bust 3/4 facing right / fire-altar & attendants, with mint name and year 2, both in Pahlavi, unfortunately one hole on obverse, obliterating most of the name Tegin and his title. Gyselen recognizes it as Arab-Sasanian, as the region of Zabulistan, just east of Sijistan and its capital Zaranj, was under limited Arab control by the time this type was issued. It is quite possible that Tegin was recognized as a local governor under the Umayyads. |
