Ancient Egyptian Scarab, New Kingdom
Ancient Egyptian Scarab with the throne name of Tuthmose III (Men-kheper-ra), 1504-1450BCE, who is buried in tomb KV34 in the Valley of the Kings (also known as Tuthmosis III - he was also Queen Hatshepsut's rival for the throne). Though probably dating to the reign of Tuthmose it may date to a period shortly thereafter. The heiroglyphic inscription is interesting in that it also names him as 'king of Lower Egypt and (of) monuments'. Scarab has a chip to the edge concealed by the loose fitting gold mount perhaps for use in a ring or as a seal, the date of which is probably late 19th or early 20th century (though it has been suggested to me that it may well be very much earlier). 24mm x 18mm. Scarab dates to c.1450 BCE, early in the New Kingdom period. Price quoted is for the Scarab; the mount, whether gold or not, whether modern or ancient, is included as part of the item and without additional charge.
