Sassanian. Khusru II, AD 591-628. Silver drachm, with Turko-Hephthalites countermark.
Denomination : Silver Drachm. Mint : DA Date : Year 24 (AD 614).
Size : 28.5 x 29.5 mm. Weight : 3.09 grams (lighter than usual)
Grade : gVF but with an edge chip and clipped.
Obverse : Head of Khusru II right, with an inscription naming him around. There is a Turko-Hephthalite Bird countermark to the right of the portrait.
Reverse : Fire altar flanked by two attendants with the mint mark to the right and the date mark to the left. On the upper left of the reverse is an area where the metal has been scraped, and is where the metal was tested prior to the countermark being applied (most countermarked issues have these scrape marks).
